Closing the year

Dear denizens of 4J,

I set up the class blog for two main reasons - as a language learning tool as well as a platform for the class to air their views or just to touch base with one another. Whether these aims/ objectives have been met is a different story altogether BUT on to more important stuff ... as I won't be teaching you English anymore, it is time for us to decide on the fate of this class blog.

So here are our options:
1) I leave the blog up and running until 31st December (so you can salvage whatever memories you want) after which I would delete it.
2)I transfer the administrator / moderator status to someone else (You have to guide me along how to do this though :P~) so the blog will not be deleted in cyberspace and will be kept for posterity for eternity. If this is the chosen option, do nominate your new moderator.

So let me know okie people? I shall set in motion Option #1 if I don't hear anything by end December.

Enjoy what's left of your holidays (it's school again in 1 1/2 months time! *evil laughter*)

Regards,
Mr Faizad.

p/s anyone who's addicted to facebook too?

graduated.

hey... a really really BIG thank you to all 33 of you, who made my last 2 years in rv a fantastic one. ok, that's a gross understatement. therefore i shall give each of you a personalised comment. of course, it isn't very detailed cos this is the class blog after all! [i'm very sorry it turned out this long]

i know it's cliche and all, but this really is the last lap. i hope all of us will do as well as [if not BETTER!] than our MODERATED prelims. JIAYOU!

#02 ying2
lame. first thing that comes to my mind is that you're very lame. i mean, who on earth [you, duh] will pop something like "do you know cockroaches can swim?" out of the blue?! thanks for being reg #02, and my in-front-tablemate!

#03 mer-paper-fish
hmm... 4 years in rv with you and i still haven't really found out how to get along well with you. jiayou for Os!

#04 chrystal
hey! chairperson! although only for a year and a term lah, but thanks! [really not easy leh] my diagonal-tablemate for a term. actually i don't know you very well lah, because we seldom talk alot. you prob have alot more to talk with jingni than me...

#05 debbra
over-achiever! the part about my friendship with you i remember most vividly are the nights we spent before exams burning the midnight oil, esp for ss. and then you're this figure whom i really want to compete with, therefore i can safely say you're one of the reasons why i was so motivated to study. so, yup, thanks! hopefully i won't miss you cos we'll end up in the same school (:

#06 e.t.
don't have much impression of you... err... to me, you've always stuck with farhanah, nat etc so i don't know you very well... sorry >.< OH YA! your results are GOOD lah! jiayou! and i hope you retain your out-of-this-world unique personality!

#07 farhanah
english & humans pro. i mean, really very pro. how do you write such pertinent stuff?!?! and your humour, too! umm... nothing much to say to you >.< i loved your english speech! the one that xina read today. jiayou with your humans scholarship!!

#08 janice
hey! duck-rice-stall-1-chilli lover! first thing i want to say is jiayou for Os cos i BELIEVE you can go RJ de! don't let whatever you see in your report book discourage you ok? you're a really great friend. i don't know why, but i feel very comfortable talking to you. and thanks for listening!

#09 julia
jiayou! don't give up on yourself, because no one can help you if you do. [dunno how to do can always bug jinni]

#10 huimin
"you're insufferable," says the one who scored top in level for lit.
i beg to differ. YOU are insufferable, because how else would you describe a person who gets perfect score for essays [even the hardest ones that weren't meant to be chosen at all] and scores 19 for a poem chosen ONLY due to a lack of time?! your bickering with kaijun AND XINA, are hilarious. how you guys manage to keep on a straight face is really a wonder. you can get your single digit de, jiayou!

#11 CHEN!
weird. i like you alot but i have nothing to say to you. except that you have BIG hands so you don't have to slit between your fingers like mozart had to. don't be too upset over prelims. Os are what's impt. (:

#12 xiwen
apart from the fact that you love korean stuff and colour-penciled rainbows, i don't know much about you at all. oh yes, and you're a VERY good imitator of others!

#13 zijing
umm... not very close to you, so except that you're a chinese pro [who sings out of tune :P] i don't know much about you. and you're really funny in your own way! good luck for Os!

#14 nat
i love the wired name you made. very nice (: thanks for tolerating the notes jingni and i kept passing to and fro!

#15 shiyan
cca mates for 4 years. your contagious bouts of laughter and sneezes and everything else i learnt about you when we were diagonal-mates are truly unforgettable.

#16 tiffy
your drawings are cute. ok, i'm sorry you're constantly on the receiving end of my very lame [sometimes to the point of cynical] comments. you're a very great friend lah, i love you <3

#17 mavis
umm... nothing much to say to you. i remember you were our classchairperson with peiqi in sec 3. not much impression of you otherwise. sorry...

#18 siewhwee
hmm. manuka honey lover, and my table-mate for 1.5 terms. don't sleep so much in class ok? jiayou for Os!

#19 pearlyn
left-hander. GREAT artist. i love your works lah, esp your handwriting. which is why you always end up being the scribe for our group works :P

#20 xina
absolutely chatty and hilarious person. thanks for your witty and humourous inserts into our otherwise boring classes. [but i'm really sorry you can only entertain 4J, if mdm chia is to be taken seriously :P]

#21 huaypeng
tablemate for this last term and i feel we haven't known each other very well [but certainly better than before] i love your red sotong! jiayou for Os! (:

#22 jing3 ni1
wahaha. my very own foc private tutor! shall not say much because everything i want to say is with you already (: remember our pact hor!

#23 peishi
future first female prime minister! i first knew you from tong's holiday maths remedial classes, through chuanmin. you're a really sweet girl who i have little impression of. nevertheless, jiayou and i hope to see your name on the ballot sheet in future!

#24 jocelyn
fellow chess player! extremely dramatic and self-proclaimed genius! good luck for everything you do (:

#25 zixi
umm. we sat together for like half a term. don't know much about you, so i don't have much to say... sorry >.<

#26 peiqi
don't waste food! and jiayou for everything you aim for!

#27 mel
i knew you through ying2, if my memory didn't fail me. really enjoyed discussing maths qns with you these past few weeks. (:

#28 renzhi
umm... no one thing you need to do is improve your handwriting lah. don't have much to say to you, so all the best!

#29 xianghui
tablemates for a term. you, me, shiyan, ying2. i really enjoyed that term ALOT. thanks! (:

#30 jiayi
err... the one vivid impression i have of you was when you flipped the ruler into your own face. ok, i admit i don't know you at all. sorry!

#31 hendy
hey! have you ever seriously considered working in the media as a stand-up comedian before? because given your body's flexibility and your humour, it really isn't too difficult to qualify! and not to forget the balloon craze you started! thanks alot for injecting fun and humour into 4J :D

#32 alex
umm... good luck for Os and whatever you do!

#33 woonshin
very very sorry to keep making you change places with me, and thanks for being tolerant!

#34 kay-juin
don't blow your head too big or it'll burst, seriously. 4 years your classmate and you haven't seemed to changed very much lah. and seriously, if you stop provoking me so much i won't retaliate loh... one more thing, a master chess player. jiayou! i'm sure you can get into NJ so i don't have to wish you good luck - you don't need it!

# mr faizad
in case you're reading this, thank you very very very much for being the best english teacher i've ever had in rv. and thanks for not giving up 4J to leave for RJ in june! we'd have missed alot of fun during english. you inspired me to consider taking a degree in english!

PRELIMS ARE OVER

Hello all, prelims are over, thank goodness!

I was surfing the web and I came across a video of Miss Teen USA-South Carolina's answer during the contest, which is hilarious. And also very pertinent to our already-over oral exam: Never go off-tangent and start babbling, making everyone watching/listening go "Whuh?" If you do, try a winning smile.

Incidentally, she looks a bit like Britney Spears...?

Oh yes, and I would also like to ask what is the proper pronunciation for Iraq? Haha.

Paulo and Chuck

Heyyyy humans!

Farhanah asked for me to do a book review on the 4J blog again so here I am!

Read Paulo Coehlo's books. They're good. :D His stories are not really very heart-pumping, dramatic action filled (haha see I listen in english class) BUT you get this warm fuzzy feeling when you read them.

And I'm not just talking about The Alchemist, although that's probably the best starter since it's a popular bestseller. I do believe he has a new book called "The Witch of Portobello" and I think it has nothing to do with enchanted mushrooms, so it makes for safe reading.

I've personally read The Alchemist, Veronika Decides To Die, The Fifth Mountain, Eleven Minutes and I was halfway through The Zahir before my sister decides to take away my reading rights by bringing the book to America. ):

I can't remember much about Eleven Minutes, though. Does anyone else experience memory loss when you get through a thick book? Like Harry Potter and the HBP. I can't remember anything except the ending, climatic part. Ehehehe.

In accordance to my sister's words, she told me that a particularly interesting part was when some dude buttered his toast and it landed buttered side up.

As you know, buttered toast always lands buttered side down, so he was really amazed and he went to tell everyone about how this miracle happened, and they went off to see the village old man who was omniscient and wise and all that.

The next day, the old man told him that the toast lands as it should, he just buttered it the wrong way.

HAHAHA.
I don't know which book that one is from, probably Like The Flowing River. And my sister told me that, so don't quote me.

Yes, go read his books and fall in love with them.

I've also borrowed "Survivor" by Chuck Palahniuk, who is the author of "Fight Club", which got made into a movie. Panic! At The Disco music fans might also want to know that P!ATD takes some of their song titles and stuff from his books, such as "The Only Difference Between Suicide And Martyrdom Is Press Coverage", taken from the abovementioned book.

It gets kind of disturbing, although it is really good hilarious satire. I'm only through a few pages, at the lobster part.

So okay. I'm going to do Chemistry now. What? I have nothing to say anymore, so I'm just going to say bye here. Bye.

P.S HARRY POTTER MOVIE/BOOK IN LESS THAN A MONTH!!!!

EDIT: I would like to say that Chuck Palahniuk writes excellently. But Survivor is probably not for hardcored Christians because it challenges the idea of God. It's not a book on religion (or rather, the lack of it) however, so if you've got a more or less open mind, read it! :D I love love this book for all its witty remarks.

To be honest the first few chapters were not that great for me, just more or less setting the background and characters for the story. You get to learn very interesting household skills like how to get bloodstains off fur coats and how to eat a lobster. Which is partly why I love this book.

It was only at about Chapter 30 when it started to pick up. BTW the chapters go in reverse order, so it starts with Chapter 47, so Chapter 30 isn't really very far into the book. Chuck Palahniuk's writing isn't exactly PG-13 though, in fact, it's kind of skimming the lines of M-18 or NC-16, but since we're not talking about a movie here, who cares?

I'm still not done, but I always spoil books for myself by finding out the ending. Hahaha. Bad habit. Oh well.

And quotes, one about the bloodstains and the others because I'm currently around that page. Read it and you'll know what I mean by challenging the idea of God. Then again, I think it has to be that way because the protagonist himself is quite jaded about this whole thing, but then I'm just not going to disclose who he is and why he's jaded and blah. Also because I'm so lazy that I don't want to type out this whole thing and turn it into a lit analysis essay.

"The secret is cornmeal and brushing the fur the wrong way. The tricky part is keeping your mouth shut."

"The same as if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, you realize, if no one had been there to witness the agony of Christ, would we be saved?"

"You realized the agent was right. You've never seen a crucifix with a Jesus who wasn't almost naked. You've never seen a fat Jesus. Or a Jesus with body hair. Every crucifix you've seen, the Jesus could be shirtless and modeling designer jeans or men's cologne."

Though the last quote is kind of pushing it because Jesus must have been emaciated after being locked up and all that. Love the body hair part, though.

Many greetings from a land far far away

Hi handsome dudes and pretty dudettes and respected English teacher!

I bring you all greetings from a land far far away!

It's called China!

Land of the good food!

So yes this post actually has another reason for being here. I would just like to say that I CAN'T GO FOR THE COMPULSORY CIP HENCE IT IS NOT COMPULSORY FOR ME.

And I will also miss the prelim orals because I will be in China until the 23rd.

Alternatively, maybe the school can send me the topic and I will happily record my reply in cassette tape format after I'm done preparing and FedEx it over.

Do I need to bring any proof? Boarding pass, etc. etc.? D: Let me know!

Also, please don't reply to this post because my connection is very screwy and it doesn't allow me to view LiveJournals, Blogs, or generally any online diary thing. So I can't view my own blog!D: !Ultra-sadness! I can't view comments as well. How did I see the posts for this blog, then? Well, there is something called Edit:Posts in the Dashboard. ;D

I can only post, which is why I am posting to tell Mr Faizad and Farnie. So yes, I have an excuse for creating this attention-seeking post.

Okay? Okay. Also, I can't find Zijing's DVD cause I can't find a DVD shop, which is super weird. But I think (I hope) I'm going to the city quite soon, so it remains to be seen. Just in case, tell Zijing not to get her hopes up please. : D

CIP

hey people I have excellent news for all of you!

I am hereby giving all of you the opportunity to put 6 hours of your horribly hideous lives to good use by joining in this COMPULSORY cip project that will take place next Thursday. 21/06/2007 from 10 am to 4pm.

It's a class initiated CIP so all of you have to turn up, rain or shine. It will probably be at this place - National Office, 254 Outram Road, Singapore 169051.

Please do not let the oral examination dampen your spirit of generosity and kindness, though I myself got into a minor state of convulsions when I saw that the orals will be one day before our CIP.

Given that this is a democratic society, I am officially giving all citizens of 4J exactly 20 hours (from time of posting), to voice out any excuses that have to offer so that they might not be able to go for this CIP.

Being the kind CIP rep that i am, I have told the coordinator that only about 28 people will be attending this CIP. So 6 of you lucky souls out there have the blessed chance to skip this CIP.
These 6 places will be filled on a first come first serve basis, so if you have an excusable reason, please leave a comment here or send me an sms.

Remember, at 2.15pm tomorrow I will send an e-mail to the coordinator for a final confirmation. So please pass the message on to all of your friends and see if they can make it. A gentle reminder - IT'S COMPULSORY

Good luck to all of you for the oral examination. I sense impending doom for all of us.

SEC 4 PRELIM EL ORAL EXAM 2007

Dear people (most of whom I have not seen for more than a month),

Heard of the saying "Absence makes the heart grow fonder"? Anyways I think we can all attest that it doesn't apply in this case.

I hope you have had some time to truly enjoy what essentially is your last holiday / long break before the dreaded 'O' Level exams. Remember to recharge, and come back re-energised and more focussed for Term 3.

At the risk of contradicting myself, I hope you have not forgotten your holiday homework. No referencing on the first day of school ok? I also hope that you have been in constant contact with the language. (reading the English papers / watching the English news / watching English movies, et cetera).

I am also posting your Prelim Oral Exam schedule here for your reference. Please help to remind one another about your exam dates. I believe Ms Choong has spent quite a considerable amount of time training you for the Oral exam - so do not let her efforts go to waste. Put into practice what you have learnt and try your best ok?

Rainforest destruction

I just heard on the radio news that hallelujah, 72% of Indonesia's rainforests are already gone.

I should probably come off as being really sick for saying this, but I hope humans die already because I think Earth is getting kind of tired of us and if we don't do anything about conservation, we're probably going to die anyway.

No, seriously. I hope the Ice Age will come, then no matter how many logs you burn, it can't save you! (: So burn away, my good, totally inconsiderate Indonesians!

From "The Curious Incident of a Dog In the Night Time", Christopher said, "And then all humans will be extinct except for people like me."

(No, I'm not curious enough to search the entire book for that quote, it's from my friend who studies that book for lit.)

I hope humans become extinct, though I would like to be one of them.
Because I think being around people like me 24/7 will drive me positively insane.
Then I'll have to launch myself into outerspace.

And just something to cheer you people on for the exams! (:

Mid-years luck.

Hello one and all! I'm blogging from my ultra fantastic Vista lappy.

Hurrah!

Hurrah!

Okay, ultra obvious boasting aside, good luck for mid-years everyone!

Why is the timetable always so stupid odd? I mean HELLO, maths paper 1 on Monday and maths paper 2 on THURSDAY?

Why can't they just use the "Primary School" system of having one subject per day? It's so horribly confusing to be studying science and humanities at the same time. One moment we're talking aluminium, and the next we're talking British Welfare State.

Haha I'm such a whinerrrr. I wish I wasn't so easily distracted.

Like now.

I bet you didn't know, but I WAS revising SS.

Free Ice-Cream from Ben & Jerry's!

Dear denizens of 4J,

It's mid term now and I suppose it's a rather dreary time for all what with the exams just around the corner. Just thought I'd share this piece of information with you in hope of brightening up your week. If you have time on Tuesday, after CCA, do drop by the outlet at Vivocity and indulge yourself. It'd be a fun class outing too! :)

I have posted more information below or you can check out the website at www.benjerry.com.sg

Cheers,
The English Teacher.

Free Cone Day is coming!!

Thanks to you, it's on us!

Mark it in your diaries - Tuesday, 17th April is Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day!

Loyal fans, in appreciation of your support, we are giving out ice cream from
12noon to 7pm at 8 participating Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shops:

Downtown East, #01-08A
Great World City, #02-40A
Suntec City Mall, #01-152
Raffles City, #B1-80
The Cathay, #02-12
United Square, #02-40A
VivoCity, #02-135
White Sands, #01-36

One cone per person, while stocks last!

Free Cone Day was first celebrated back in 1979 in the first Ben & Jerry's scoop shop - a dilapidated gas station in Burlington, Vermont, USA. Ben and Jerry had been scooping ice cream for a year and decided to reward staff and customers in the best way they knew how - by serving up a tasty tub of thanks free to everyone. An instant success, Free Cone Day has now been scooping up free cones for over twenty-five years and has raised tub loads of money for charity too.

Chickens and T-rex

For those who have been reading The Straits Times, you will notice an article stating that the T-rex and the chickens are DISTANT COUSINS!
Which makes you wonder... HOW ON EARTH DID THEY GET SO SMALL?! A long time ago, i watched 'Walking with dinosaurs', and i certainly don't remember the T-rex being so small! And unless my memory is failing me, the T-rex was green or brown or some dull colour and NOT COVERED WITH FEATHERS! Which reminds me of the point of this entry.. I thus conclude that T-rex was once covered with feathers! No more T-rex looking like lizards! T-rex shall be animated to look like brown(or black) chickens covered with many many many feathers!
But honestly, why is it their turn to be eaten now?

Book Help

Hello, can someone out there please please tell me if "The Satanic Verses" by Salman Rushdie is banned or illegal in Singapore?

And also, does anyone have "The Picture of Dorian Gray" or "The Catcher in the Rye" or "Ulysses"?

: D Wondering, cause I can't find them in the library currently, although I shall keep trying!

For all aspiring doctors [and everyone else]

hi all!

I just watched the movie "Patch Adams" on Star Movies. It's really really very nice! (:

The movie's based on a true story of Hunter "Patch" Adams who couldn't find any meaning in his life and attempted suicide several times until he couldn't take it and admitted himself to a mental hospital.

There, he met other patients and used humour to relieve them of their pain. And then he realised he wanted to be a doctor. He enrolled in a medical school and didn't believe in all the crap the professors told him about. And he was weird. Very weird.

Patch broke all the rules and made the patients laugh, thereby treating them. I like the part where he was fooling around entertaining a patient when a doctor making his rounds saw him and asked him what he was doing. Patch rattled of a long speech about how laughter helped the patients before walking out, leaving the doctor stunned. The patient's dad described Patch as an "intelligent clown" instead of a "funny doctor", which kinds of changes his primary role.

In a nutshell, it's nice and worth watching. Alot better than Cinderella Story, which was featuring at the same time on channel 5. Patch is "excessively funny", as commented by his professor!

Go watch! (:

Monday 2 April 2007

Oh well. Busted.

Good Lord, I just realised I posted that on April 2nd.

I totally fail. D:

Shhhh.

HELLO, OVER THE WEEKEND I'VE GONE SUICIDAL AND I AM SLASHING MY WRISTS NOW. RIGHT NOW. GIVE ME ATTENTION. I WANT ATTENTION WITH MY BIG BOLD BEAUTIFUL RED FONT AND SKILLFUL USE OF ALLITERATION.

Happy obvious April's Fool.

It's not really very happy because I don't suppose you're fooled at all, unless you are really really really really STUPID.

Sunday 1 April 2007

It's April 01!

Okay so this is my first post on this blog. And its April fool's day. Or whatever you call it. So I'm so totally going to put something lame here. And you'll go DUH, when did you ever see an entry in a blog walk?!

Okay. So the classic thing you'll say on April fool's. "Ah, there's money on the floor." then followed by, " where?", and followed by, " Money face. Happy April fool's". or something like that.

That's all. Has this day lost its significance or something because I've not been fooled on this day for a long while. Not that i want to be. But then. Whatever.

Saturday 31 March 2007

colours

heys! just thought you guys might like to know something...

there's no such thing as "yellow colour" or "blue colour". yellow/blue (or any other colour for that matter) is already a colour, so what you're essentially saying is "colour colour". which is as stupid as it sounds.

and i finally realised where it originates from! directly translated from chinese, which goes huang se or lan se...

oh ya, and there's a difference between shower and bathe, so be glad you're one of those few who know they can't be used interchangeably! (:

EVERYBODY, SOMEBODY, ANYBODY AND NOBODY

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.

Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.

Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job

Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.

It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Noise level

My post here today concerns the noise level in LT5 during the phonetics course
whereby 4G,H & J are all having the lesson together.
Much as we would love to concentrate on learning how to twist our tongues
and pronounce each word with grace,
the noise emitted by one of the classes is the most bothering aspect of the entire 1 hour in the LT.
The incessant chattering and giggles from the, let's just say, MATURE boys
does drive me and natalie mad.
I don't know about the rest of the class,
but judging from the number of 'SHHHH's that i heard today,
I'm sure they share the same sentiments.

I mean, the comments that that particular class gives is neither constructive nor relevant to the topic
and ms tessonsohn's futile attempts to get them to keep quiet takes up almost half of the lesson
not forgetting that according to her, we are lagging behind

The message just doesn't get into their head. No matter how hard we try to ask them to keep quiet, they just keep talking.
Its like their mouth is something automatic. Once Ms tessonsohn moves her hand or flips a page, they'll start talking.

Maybe if Mrs Lee Lee Mui was there looking over them like a babysitter, they'll just shut up.

the life story of peter the plant

this is a true story on peter the plant. (written in the 1st view)
I am peter the plant. I originated from a place called the 'very pretty flower' flower shop.(although i am not a flower) i was bought by some cheapo aunty at a price of 99 cents. Together with the other plants she bought, we were tranported to a school called RVHS.
During my stay in an air conditioned room, where students came in and called their parents because they forgot to bring their PE shirt, i suppose that it was an office. My other mates were carried away one by one. Until i was the last left on the shelf. I heard that the GREEN REP from each class was suppose to collect a plant, but obviously the one who suppose to collect me forgot.
Finally he came and i was yet again tranported to another air conditioned room. I reckoned it was a classroom as there were lots of people buzzing around me. Suddenly they stopped. The silence were deafening. The voice which broke the quietness started ranting dy dx and blah blah blah. It was like some lullaby and i fell asleep after a while.
Then i heard some commotion happening in the class and i saw a monkey like creature pushing a caterpillar onto my leaves. I tried to be friendly and introduced myself to her. (i supposed it was a her) she told me she was Mimi. (it IS a girl) She then complained about how much she suffered under the hands of the monkey like creature.
" all the poking and pushing is messing up my hair" she said.
Just then i realised an ant crawling around me. He seems to be in a rush.
"hey buddy what's the rush?" i asked.
"Watch your mouth. butt hole, I'm a girl ok. I'm called Nana." I apologised for my grave mistake and the three of us started chatting away happily.
When the creature was gone, the buzzing started again. And people crowded arounded me again. Suddenly i saw a hand going for Nana. "Nana be careful.." I warned. But it was too late. A human girl who has a bean shaped face squashed Nana. Mimi and i was traumatised. The very next moment, I was carried out of the room and placed at a sunny area. I started to have my meal, the delicious sunlight. When i was having my meal, i realised Mimi was missing. Just then a big black bird flew past.
"NO!! MIMI!!" And I broke into tears. I was all alone again.
To be continued...

BOOK RECOMMENDATION.

Hiiiii fellow 4Jers (Haha that sounds like forgers. Forging what? 4J forgers forging....money?) and Mr Faizad!

Ya, anyway. Let me recommend a wonderful book to all of you! I borrowed it during an insane book-borrowing craze today after CO when I paid a long overdue visit to the library. (Haha, I still owe them 10 hours of CIP.)

It's called "Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress" by Dai Sijie. (:It was originally written in French by a Chinese, as you can tell from the name. Anyway, it's about two guys sent away to the mountains during Communist reign in accordance to our dear !ultra-communist! Mao's policies, because they were city people and intellectuals because their parents are intellectuals. They were supposed to be "re-educated" (read: brainwashed) in the mountains, and it happened, though not in the way it was supposed to.

Basically it talks about their lives there and how it changes when they find a secret stash of "forbidden books" that their friends keep, which they ultimately steal. D: It contains all those great Western classics by Balzac, Dumas etc, which would obviously have a profound impact on their ideology.

The Little Chinese Seamstress comes in because she is daughter of the only tailor in town, and she has a "particularly fine pair of feet". Yes, that was a quote. So she knows them, they read to her most of the books, and her life changes as well.

So on so forth.

ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR HISTORY STUDENTS BECAUSE IT IS ABOUT THE COMMUNIST THING. (ZIXI ARE YOU LISTENING?)

Plus it's a bestseller. : DDD So put down the Jodi Picoult for awhile and read it okay?

Then watch the film cause it has Zhou Xun inside and she is very pretty.

As a side note, I also borrowed "When the Emperor was Divine" by some Jap person about her family being ostracized in America after the Pearl Harbour bombing because it's a different POV. Also, "Kiss Kiss" by Roald Dahl because his stories are so nice (although not very unexpected/shocking anymore since I've read it a lot of times and yet I am too cheap to buy the book.)

Hurrah, I feel so intellectual today. (:

More CIP options ...

I happened to receive this and would like to do some charity work

Okay, so I received an email. And the content was really pretty (no. not flowery language) but really, really, really pretty.
So I shall be charitable and share it with the rest of the class.
(And I would like to add that the plant on the teacher's table is taking away my oxygen)

A letter from a mother to a son.

My dear Jagjit,
I am in a well here and hoping you are also in a well there. I'm writing this letter slowly, because I know you cannot read fast.

We don't live where we did when you left home. Your dad read in the newspaper that most accidents happen 20 miles from home, so we moved 20 miles away. I won't be able to send the address as the last Sardar who stayed here took the house numbers with them for their new house so they would not have to change their address. Hopefully by next week we will be able to take our earlier address plate here, n that our address will remain same too.

This place is really nice. It even has a washing machine, situated right above the toilet. I'm not sure it works too well. Last week I put in 3 shirts, pulled the chain and haven't seen them since.

The weather here isn't too bad. It rained only twice last week. The first time it rained for 3 days and second time for 4 days.

The coat you wanted me to send you, your Aunt said it would be a little too heavy to send in the mail with all the metal buttons, so we cut them off and put them in the pocket.

Your father has another job. He has 500 men under him. He is cutting the grass at the cemetery. By the way I took Bahu to our club's poolside. The manager is Badmash. He told her that two piece swimming suit is not allowed in his club. We were confused as to which piece should we remove?

Your sister had a baby this morning. I haven't found out whether it is a girl or a boy, so I don't know whether you are an Aunt or Uncle. Your uncle, Jetinder, got drunk one night and fell in the wine vat. Some men tried to pull him out, but he fought them off bravely and drowned.

We cremated him and he burned for three days because he was really soaked in alcohol. Your best friend, Balwinder, is no more. He died trying to fulfill his father's last wishes. His father had wished to be buried in the sea after he died. And your friend died while in the process of digging a grave for his father. There isn't much more news this time. Nothing much has happened.

Love Mom.

P.S : Jagjit, I was going to send you some money but by the time I realized, I had already sealed off this letter.

VIRGIN BLOG ENTRY.

HEY. Its my virgin blog entry.
I kind of decided to check this blog out.
Anyway, its been like 2 years since i had a blog.
My screws are getting a little rusty.
Although i still remember how my virgin blog looks like;
It was kind of black and pink, which was kind of gay. Yeah. Whatever.
But i thought it was kind of cool you know, with all the graffiti and stuff.
DON'T BLAME ME FOR MY INFANTILISM OKAY!!
don't blame my inner child. IT HASN'T EVEN LEARNED HOW TO WALK YET!
MUCH LESS REACHING PUBESCENT!!
-changing the subject-
Oh yeah. i've been much of a bookworm recently.
I love reading books!!
I want to be a geek.
although i remembered i took like 2 months to finish a particular book.
and the font size was like NOT SMALL.
Yeah so i'm currently into Jodi Picoult books!
Yeah i know i'm kind of on the abysmally slow frequency
everyone has already read it. BUT WHO CARES!!
I'm gonna go to borders and read off all of her other previously written books
and get her newest one yet. The nineteen year something something.
I didn't quite catch the title.

That's all folks.

GEEKS ARE COOL. NERDS AREN'T.

bid you'all adieu

Ultra sour!

LEMON BARS ARE ULTRA SOUR!

My lemon bars. D: Should not have added one entire lemon's lemon juice in the Lemon Bars because it is super super super Mary-Poppins'ly SOUR!

No, I have not gotten food poisoning yet. I WILL HAVE YOU KNOW THAT I OBSERVE STRINGENT KITCHEN HYGIENE OKAY?! Actually I planned to make Lemon Meringue Pie, then the crust shattered to the floor so I have to improv and make Lemon Bars instead.

Today was PTM. I had a whale of a time playing translator for my mother! She hasn't been to a PTM since I was P5, I think. This is the first time I've went to a PTM and I've actually heard some good stuff about me. I'll have you know that I used to sit in the middle of the class when I was Pri 4 because I was the least attentive in class. D: I might have minor ADD.

Hahaha! I just had a horrible thought that the moderator might know all our passwords! THEN I WILL NOT BE SAFE BECAUSE I USE THE SAME PASSWORD FOR EVERYTHING!!!

I'm not very Internet-safety savvy. I shall go change the password of my Neopets account so nobody can steal my pixels. D:

Thursday 8 March 2007

Cross Country

I am currently continuing the trend of the boring title/headings.
And I have to admit that I am terribly hopeless at remembering passwords -not many days have passed since I just changed my password but alas, I have to do it again. Gmail and blogger will block me one day.
And I would like to admit that typing "I" in capital letters is a big pain in the (---) -up to you to fill up.
It was cross country today and well, although we weren't running from Jurong to Bedok, it was bad enough in the scorching heat and the fact that we had to give way to the Centaur people made it far worse. A pretty tiring day on the whole. WRONG! A extremely atrociously tiring day. However, I think the Turf City course is much less taxing on the human body. Why oh why did we have to do it at the reservoir at Bishan. (only because I do not know how to spell the name on the reservoir)
There is Physics SPA tomorrow (no, not the Jean Yip thing but the one where we get our brains fried in the physics labs) and my mind cannot take it any further.

No, I cannot hold this in any longer. I happened to innocently scroll down the class blog, only to my horror, I caught sight of the four males in our class camera hogging. Trust me, it is not nice. They, on their parts and to our viewing displeasure, have decided to show and exhibit their talents at the 10-ways of acting cute. As if I did not have enough.
But this is er, cute, I guess. How many guess would do this for the class blog? I applaud them for their bravery and courage - don't give up!

Well then, the March holidays are going to come soon and I am dreaming of days of fun -sun, sand and sea. Yeah, that's right, I am going to watch Casino Royale and all those sun, sand and sea shows for the scenery. I highly doubt I am going anywhere this holiday anyway - DANG!

Ah ha, 9.12pm is now. Sleep, I must. Brain, fried. Dreams, I see all of you.
Seriously, would they audition me for the role of Yoda in Star Wars 110?

Goodnight, sweet dreams, dream of me tonight. (Everbody now, AWWWWWWW)

Eurasian Association.

Hello everyone! Nevermind the uncreative, identical title, I'm here to blog about the fantastic Eurasian trip! I come with offerings of text and peace, with no photos whatsoever. Ask Pearlyn. She has loads of photos.

Anyway, ya. After school, 4J went for lunch and I stayed in the classroom with some people whom I can't remember. ZiJing was shouting, "I WANT TO HAVE LEE JOON KI'S HAIRSTYLE!" and the teacher next door came over twice to tell us to shut up. In a very nice way, of course.

Then we went for the trip on a bus coated with ants. I didn't really care, I slept throughout the journey. Apparently, our driver got lost. Hahahaha. But I wouldn't know, I was sleeping and turning into an ice cube under the air-conditioning.

The tour around the EA was interesting, to say the least. A bunch of us got stuck at the staircase because the door was one-way. It was those "OHMYGOD THERE'S NO WAY OUT! OPEN THE WINDOWS AND PREPARE TO JUMP, PEOPLE!" scenario until the kind Jingkli Nona dancer opened the door for us.

Then we went to the exhibit and saw all the gruesome ways of torture including the famous water torture, and a person commiting suicide by ramming his head repeatedly against the concrete jail wall. I've also read before that they tied nets around a person so that the flesh popped out, then they proceed to slice the flesh off like pieces of tofu.

I think that would be the Chinese, not the Japanese. But you can never be too sure.

Anyway, yada yada, we finally went back to watch the woman dance the Jingkli Nona (or was it Jingli Nona?) and ate Sugee Cake. SUGEEEEEEEEEEEEE. I LOVE SUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. I even have the recipe now, I shall bake it once I find semolina (whatever that is) and 7 egg yolks.

What do I do with the egg whites, then? Put them on my face?

English composition will be returned to us tomorrow! Let Mr Faizad be more benevolent when marking compositions.

Eurasian Association.

Eurasian Association was cool, though the Japs during the WW2 really freaked me out. They are totally sick in the head.
