BOOK RECOMMENDATION.

Hiiiii fellow 4Jers (Haha that sounds like forgers. Forging what? 4J forgers forging....money?) and Mr Faizad!

Ya, anyway. Let me recommend a wonderful book to all of you! I borrowed it during an insane book-borrowing craze today after CO when I paid a long overdue visit to the library. (Haha, I still owe them 10 hours of CIP.)

It's called "Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress" by Dai Sijie. (:It was originally written in French by a Chinese, as you can tell from the name. Anyway, it's about two guys sent away to the mountains during Communist reign in accordance to our dear !ultra-communist! Mao's policies, because they were city people and intellectuals because their parents are intellectuals. They were supposed to be "re-educated" (read: brainwashed) in the mountains, and it happened, though not in the way it was supposed to.

Basically it talks about their lives there and how it changes when they find a secret stash of "forbidden books" that their friends keep, which they ultimately steal. D: It contains all those great Western classics by Balzac, Dumas etc, which would obviously have a profound impact on their ideology.

The Little Chinese Seamstress comes in because she is daughter of the only tailor in town, and she has a "particularly fine pair of feet". Yes, that was a quote. So she knows them, they read to her most of the books, and her life changes as well.

So on so forth.

ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR HISTORY STUDENTS BECAUSE IT IS ABOUT THE COMMUNIST THING. (ZIXI ARE YOU LISTENING?)

Plus it's a bestseller. : DDD So put down the Jodi Picoult for awhile and read it okay?

Then watch the film cause it has Zhou Xun inside and she is very pretty.

As a side note, I also borrowed "When the Emperor was Divine" by some Jap person about her family being ostracized in America after the Pearl Harbour bombing because it's a different POV. Also, "Kiss Kiss" by Roald Dahl because his stories are so nice (although not very unexpected/shocking anymore since I've read it a lot of times and yet I am too cheap to buy the book.)

Hurrah, I feel so intellectual today. (:
